The Tea Act
The Tea Act was passed by the British Parliament on May 10,1773. This was a law passed to help the British East India Company. It allowed them to sell tea directly to the public, skipping over the local tea merchants, selling it for cheaper than what the merchants could sell it for. They did this because the British Empire was heavily in debt and the cheaper tea sold faster helping them out of debt a lot quicker. Colonists in Philadelphia and New York turned the tea ships back to Britain. In Charleston the cargo was left to rot on the dock. In Boston, the Royal Governor was stubborn and held the ships in port where colonists wouldn't allow them to unload. Cargoes of tea filled the harbor, and the British ship's crews were stalled in Boston looking for work and often finding trouble.

How the Settlers Protested
They first started with boycotts on tea. Then on Thursday December 16,1773, the evening before the tea was due to be landed, a signal was given by Samuel Adams, the Sons of Liberty Thinly disguised as Mohawk Indians left the massive protest meeting and headed toward Griffin's Wharf, where lay HMS Dartmouth and her newly arrived, tea bering, sister ships HMS Beaver and HMS Eleanour. Swiftly and efficiently casks of tea were brought up from the hold to the deck, reasonable proof that some of the "Indians" were, in fact longshore men. They opened the casks and dumped the tea overboard; the work, lasting well into the night, was quick, thorough, and efficient. By dawn 90,000 lbs (45 tons) of tea that was an estimated 10,000 pounds ($16,352) had been dumped into the harbor. Tea washed up on shore around Boston for weeks.

My opinion on the Tea Act
I think that the Tea Act was unfair to the settlers. It wasn't fair because they didn't give the settlers a say in any of the taxes. The British wasn't taxing them for the good of the colonies, they were doing it for the good of themselves. I agree with the ways that they protested. They did the right thing in my opinion.
