Boston Tea Party!

What was the Boston Tea Party?
The Boston Tea Party was an act of rebellion from which the strained relationship between Britain and the colonies would never recover. The British colony was favoring British businesses and the Americans were upset. They came up with a plan. They dressed up like Indians then they went on British boats and dumped nearly 100,000 pounds of tea into the ocean. In today’s economy that would be about 1,000,000 dollars of tea. But just as quickly as they came they were gone.
Why did the Boston Tea Party start?
The whole thing basically started from the tea act. The tea act was the British government picking a favorite. They allowed the Dutch East Indian Company to sell tea directly with no taxes. Why were they mad about cheaper tea? First of all it hurt the American tea sellers and negatively affected the American economy. The British government was favoring British companies.
Why were Americans worried about the tea company?
The colonist had two fears about this. One: The local merchants that sold tea would be put out of business due to the tax on their tea, but the East India Company (a British trading company) would be able to sell theirs at a low price. Two: If they paid the tax on tea the British would enforce more taxes on other things. This is what led about 100 patriots to dump almost 100,000 pounds of tea into the ocean. The Americans were punished for their scam.
Do we know all of the people that participated in the Boston Tea Party? How was Boston punished?
We don’t know all the people that participated in the Boston Tea Party. It is recorded that 116 people participated. Why did some people not admit to this? Lots of people were scared that they would be punished. But all of Boston was punished. Later came the “Intolerable act”. They could only have public meetings once a year and couldn’t communicate with other or they would be put in jail. There were other punishments too.
Where did the raid take place? What are some other facts about the Boston Tea Party?
The exact location was at Griffins Warf harbor. The tea was on 3 different boats. The Beaver, Dartmouth, and Eleanor were moored at Griffin’s Wharf in Boston. There were exactly 342 crates of tea thrown overboard. George Washington actually agreed with British after the rampage. He thought that the expenses of the tea should have been paid for. The event was such a big deal not because of the rampage but because of the British’s reaction to it. The event wasn’t called the Boston Tea Party until half of a century later.
What is my opinion about the Boston Tea Party?
I agree with both sides in some ways, but mostly Americans. The British were favoring their country so they deserved what was coming but they lost a lot of money and tea. But on the British side even with tax the Dutch East Indian companies tea was still cheaper then average tea. Britain was in a lot of debt and they had to pay it off but dumping it on colonists without giving them a say in anything was wrong. Overall Americans were mistreated.
