Fort Ticonderoga
The battle of Fort Ticonderoga began 1777, between the 2nd and 6th of July. It was located at the southern end of Lake Champlain, in the state of New York. The British had right around 8,000 soldiers. The colonist had right around 3,000 soldiers. The British had Indians and Canadians helping them.
The leaders of this battle were, Americans: Arthur St. Clair. British: John Burgoyne and William Phillips. Arthur St. Clair was born March 23rd 1737, in Scotland. He was the first governor of the northwest territory. The British took Fort Ticonderoga from they Americans, but the Americans won the war so technically they Americans won.
Fort Ticonderoga Was built in 1755 and 1759. It was built on the shore of Lake Champlain, near the border of Vermont and New York. Fort Ticonderoga was attacked first in July, 1758. It was ruled by the French at that time. Although the British failed to take it over the first time, they didn't give up and eventually got control of it.
It was first named Fort Carillon. The British changed it to Fort Ticonderoga after they took it over. The French built Fort Ticonderoga to protect/defend against the British. The French lost Fort Ticonderoga the same year the British failed to take it. The French withdrew to Canada.
They Americans controlled Fort Ticonderoga after they took it from the British on May 10, 1775. The British took it back on the 6th of July, 1777. The leaders for the Americans on this 1775 attack were Ethan Allen, and Benedict Arnold. It was a small force of green mountain boys. The Fort went back and fourth between the two countries.
Fort Ticonderoga is used as a tourist attraction. They architects were Michel Chartier de Lotbiniere, and Marquis de Lotbiniere. Fort Ticonderoga attracts around 70,000 people each year. They have a lot of learning experiences there. They call it Americas Fort because it was a very important Fort in the war.
I think they Americans were outnumbered by a large number in the last battle. They were smart to withdrew from the battle. All of them may have died if they didn't. They British knew what they needed to win and they had it. But i think they Americans technically won since they won the whole war.
