The Invasion of Canada
This song is by Jamie Soles.
The americans went to war after many provocations by the British. They were angry because of taxation, the british trying to limit the western settlement and the British trying to make them stop trading with the French. The President of the United States and some of his Congress were telling the President to put the country into war and "Defend it's recently won independence". They wanted to invade Canada and have the French Canadians help them take over. In a few months, American Rebels invaded Canada to, "Secure their northern frontier," British colonies that joined the rebellion became part of the USA. Those that defeated the Americans later became Canada.
The objective of the invasion was to gain military control of the province of Québec, and convince the French-speaking Canadians to join the revolution on the USA side of the war. Two groups were launched in 1775, going different directions, planning to meet in Québec. One group with the leader of Vrigadier-General Richard Montgomery, they set out from Fort Ticonderoga, besieged and captured Fort St. John, and almost captured British General Guy Carleton when taking Montreal. The other group left from Cambridge, Massachusetts, under Colonel Benedict Arnold (a traitor) and traveled with many issues through the wilderness of Maine to Québec City. The groups met in Québec city, but were defeated in the Battle of Québec in December 1775. The reason they lost was because it was quoted that, "many of them were complete amateurs with virtually no training or discipline," said this historian Alan Taylor.
The invasion did not go well for the americans. They weren't prepared for the Canadian wrath. It was quoted that many of them were "complete amateurs with virtually no training or discipline," said the historian Alan Taylor. The initial offense was led by Gen. William Hull, who was later damned by a subordinate as an "imbesile".
